Diversity Peer Leader

About the DPL Scholarship

The Diversity Peer Leader position is a scholarship that provides an opportunity for students of Illinois Institute of Technology to put on a program concerning diversity for the campus of IIT, with the help of the Office of Multicultural Student Services (OMSS). The event is required to cover an area of diversity, but the specific area is to be chosen by the student. The student will be responsible to work with the OMSS to conceptualize and produce the event or activity.

Each student will be allotted a stipend from OMSS to provide programming. Each student will also be given remuneration in the form of a text book scholarship for their work on the program. The students selected, with the help of OMSS, will be in charge of concept ideas, space reservations, promotion and other areas of event planning.

Qualifications and Characteristics of Desired Applicants

• Good academic standing with a minimum 2.5 cumulative and semester GPA.
• Full-time student status with no academic overload.
• Holds at least a sophomore standing or will hold in fall of 2008.
• Previous experience with event and programming preferred, but not required.
• Advocate for diversity with aspiration to work toward positive change.
• Understands and supports diversity in all areas.
• Non-judgmental of diverse situations and populations.
• Creative, energetic and works well as a team member.
• Possesses time management and organizing skills.
• The ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Great listening skills.
